Startling Testimony of XUE XIN FU, SNOW HEART POEM:
ERRORS IN COMPASS FENG SHUI.
Compass techniques wrongly used
to overthrow Luan Tou determination of hsueh.

Confucius as Original Feng Shui Master

Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, has a remarkable passage indicating that Confucius was the creator of the original Feng Shui texts!:

  • Even though calling water, how to get with water.
    Who know sage Confucius' heart?
To the greatest extend, double (alternative) book being inferior to no book.
Some more, want to leave sharp vision.

Xue Xin Fu 440-441 (Book 4, Chapter 4).

The passage shows that during the Tang dynasty the Feng Shui masters attributed the correct Feng Shui lore to Confucius and that there was already a contradictory Feng Shui doctrine going around. Yes, Confucius was a Feng Shui master and he wrote down his Feng Shui doctrines into at least some book! What was this Feng Shui doctrine which opposes what Confucius taught about Feng Shui?

Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, Attacks Compass Methods

The fourth and last Book 4 of Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, contains several passages attacking a group of wrong Feng Shui doctrines. One pertinent remarkable passage is:

  • Twenty four mountains.
    Mountain names too complicated.
    Thirty six caves.
    Cave method how winding.
Ancestral temple's water method misleading people.
Five elements mountain luck/fortune have accuracy.

Xue Xin Fu 381-383 (Book 4, Chapter 4).

The passage clearly condemns the use of the 24 Mountains in a water method. It was a water method used to identify the "ancestral temple", i.e. the hsueh or Ming Tang. The use of 24 Mountains in connection with a method method is characteristic of the Compass schools. Yes, Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, is attacking principles important even in today's Compass schools. The auspicious location must be identified through the Luan Tou methods, with physical features conforming to the Four Heraldic Beasts as vital. But the Compass schools are using alternative methods claiming to detect whether a site is auspicious or not.

  • For example, the Xuan Kong Compass schools compute Time through the 24 Mountains to locate the Zheng Shen and Ling Shen which vary with Time. As such, the water location, vis Ling Shen, will have different locations depending on the date.

However, such a changeable water location determined by the Compass method will often contradict the Luan Tou identification that the water mouth must be at the frontage at the South. Thus, where the Luan Tou says that a site is auspicious or not, the Compass water method is liable to contradict the Luan Tou diagnosis.

SEARCH FOR AUSPICIOUS SITE KNOWN AS HSUEH OR "DRAGON CAVE"
The auspiciousness of a site can be determined only through Luan Tou methods. San Yuan practitioners have been fooling people with use of Compass methods to determine the hsueh.

"Five elements mountain luck/fortune have accuracy."

This phrase emphasises that the method of the "Five Elements Mountains" is sufficient and accurate. This refers to the familiar diagram of the hsueh with five types of mountains of the Five Elements of Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. They compose the Luan Tou method of determining the auspiciousness of a site.

  • The details of how the physical features of the mountains are used to identify the auspicious hsueh are described in great details by the Tang Feng Shui patriarch Yang Yun Sung in his classics Han Lung Jing and Yi Lung Jing.

What is especially indicated by Xue Xin Fu , Snow Heart Poem, is that there were people who wanted to reject the Luan Tou method for determining the auspiciousness of a site and resort to an alternative faulty method to determine the auspiciousness. The Xue Xin Fu , Snow Heart Poem, strongly condemns this Compass method as contradictory to what Confucius taught.

"Thirty six caves. Cave method how winding."

The Compass 24 Mountains water methods also includes the "36 caves" component. This is a modification of the "72 Dragons" method, which transforms the '36 caves" through forward and reverse patterns. This erratic doctrine originated with a serious misintepretation of Yang Yun Sung's Tian Yu Jing, Heaven Jade Classic. Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, states that this '36 caves" concept is "winding", i.e. erratic.

  • This '36 caves" or "72 Dragons" concept also relates the faulty Compass doctrine of the inauspicious Kung Mang lines. The Fei Xing (Flying Stars) and Liu Fa (6 Methods) have different conflicting socalled inauspicious lines. The concept of the inauspicious lines is not only incorrect but even the different Compass schools have different ideas what they are purported to be. Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, labeled them as rubbish.

    • Scientifically, it is impossible to obtain compass readings of accuracy greater than 1 degree. This is because the Earth's magnetic pole shifted at least 1.35 degress in 200 years, rendering long term readings dubious. Currently, the magnetic pole is shifting much faster than 200 years ago. That is why the ancient emperors used the gnomon shadow stick method to get the directions.

The Compass schools are just trying to bluff people about the accuracy of the Luopan readings.

Restoration of True Feng Shui.

There is no doubt that Xue Xin Fu, Snow Heart Poem, is against extant Compass schools doctrines and classifies the Compass methods as misleading people. It identifies the issues of determining the auspicousness of a site and the Kung Mang lines as where the Compass schools commit serious errors.

Practitioners should not just swallow what these Compass masters say. That there are so many different Feng Shui groups is a warning signal to express caution in believing which Feng Shui school is right or wrong.

Yes, there are many wrong doctrines, but how do you know? You just have to study the ancient Feng Shui texts, the historical development of Feng Shui and also the scientific basis to know and judge.

Otherwise, you would just have to keep your mouth shut and pretend to know!

Louyang, Land of the Mowtan.
The hsueh is always a well watered green lush area. There will be wildlife and songbirds. Compass masters are bluffing people about barren sites. By resorting to dubious calculation methods, the Compass masters would incorrectly claim as auspicious various buildings which are nothing more than concrete jungles. It is time to call their bluff.

Xue Xin Fu is regarded by some as the most important Luan Tou Feng Shui text. It has a lot of attacks on the Compass schools principles. Read the other related articles.

Somewhere down the ages, the original secrets of the Compass methods were lost. What we have today is a mess of Compass concepts which contradict the original highly scientific Feng Shui. Many do not know that Confucius went to Luoyang to study the Feng Shui of the capital and he wrote much Feng Shui into his Confucian texts!

Down the centuries, Feng Shui masters remembered less and less of the original scientific foundations of their art. Modern Feng Shui deviated much from the original Feng Shui presented by Confucius, circa 600 BC, and becomes an almost superstitious belief.
Confucius and many ancient masters will be truly sadden by the deterioration. It is time to re-discover, as taught in our research based courses, the original scientific Feng Shui!
