Gui Management Centre is making available preliminary findings of our highly scientific research into Chinese astrology and Feng Shui, backed up by intensive analysis of the ancient texts. The series of articles on Zi Wei Dou Shu are:
Introduction It is no longer a mystery what is the historical origin of Zi Wei Dou Shu! Gui Management Center's continual advance scientific and historical research into Feng Shui and astrology has finally uncovered the startling historical origins of Zi Wei Dou Shu, the Purple or Emperor Star astrology. For too long, practitioners do not know how Zi Wei Dou Shu came about or had been given misleading ideas about the origins of Zi Wei Dou Shu:
The research also shows that the Chinese Zi Wei Dou Shu and the Hindu and Western astrology are the same system. As the research also involves checking the history of Zi Wei Dou Shu, it is blessed to be able to identify the amazing historic origins of it. |

While most have credited Chen Xi Yi or Chen Tuan as the creator of Zi Wei Dou Shu, some know that Chen Xi Yi learnt it from one Lu Chun Yang. What is interesting is that Lu Chun Yang, circa 798 A.D., is better known by the name Lu Dong Bin, one of the legendary Ba Xian, Eight Immortals. Chen Tuan was a Wudang Martial art expert at Mount Wudang. Traditions state that he then settled at Hua Shan where he met Lu Dong Bin. Lu Dong Bin came of an official family, his grandfather having been President of the Ministry of Ceremonies and his father Prefect of Hai Chou. The President of the Ministry of Ceremonies must also consult astrology and Feng Shui in his duties. As these were likely families' knowledge, it would be naturally for Lu Dong Bin to acquire interests in the astrology and Feng Shui knowledge of his grandfather. However, Lu Dong Bin was to learn from another source more astrological information which went to create Zi Wei Dou Shu. |

Startling Origin of Lu Dong Bin's Astrology The beginning of the Tang dynasty saw the emergence of Changan (Xian) the Tang capital as the largest city in the world. It was also the meeting center of a wide range of races and cultures, including religions. The historical testimony is that during the time of the second Tang emperor Tai-zong, a group of Nestorian Christians from Syria arrived in Changan. After listening to them, Emperor Tai-zong declared Christianity as one of the national religions and had a stele erected to announce this. What was interesting was that traditions stated that the Xian stele was reputedly made by Lu Dong Bin. Even more interesting is that Lu Dong Bin helped the Syrian monks translated Christian texts into Chinese. Lu Dong Bin himself composed a Taoist mantra poem which was in 4 parts, the first being an eulogy to the Christian Trinity. This may be the origin of the concept of the "Three Highest Deities" in Taoism and Buddhism. Lu Dong Bin was reputedly to work a number of miracles. However some of these miracles were rather similar to those performed by Jesus Christ. These include changing water to wine, making the blind sees and the lame beggar walks. Some of his miracles were probably Lu Dong Bin's tales from the Christian Gospels. Lu Dong Bin was a Nestorian Christian! |

The Nestorians were a group of Christians often shunned by the main stream Christians as heretics. Even the main stream Muslims persecuted the Nestorians. However, many Arabs used the Nestorians as astrologers. Anyone familiar with Christianity would know the famous Christmas story of the Magi visiting the infant Christ. The Magi was famous for their astrology, by which they knew of the birth of Christ. These Magi were Mancheans, also known as the Sabeans (famous for astrology in Biblical times). When many Mancheans converted to Christianity it was into the Nestorian cult. Thus the Syriac Nestorian monks who arrived in Changan included Manchean Sabeans who knew a very advance form of astrology. It is said that these Syriac Nestorian monks introduced Hellenistic elements into Chinese astrology. It is said that the familiar 12 Zodiac signs houses format now used in Chinese horoscopes originated with these Syriac monks. The more ancient Chinese culture used to cast astrology in terms of the unequal 28 Lunar Constellations. Incorporation of the 12 Zodiac signs format originated with the Syriac monks. In the beginning, the Syriac 12 houses format was used in Ba Zi Eight Characters divination. The Ba Zi Eight Characters divination was quite inferior to the Hindu and Western astrology. Later, the Syriac 12 houses format was also used to create Zi Wei Dou Shu. Zi Wei Dou Shu originated from the Nestorian Christian Syriac Sabean astrology of the Middle East! It was the same type of astrology involved in the famous Christmas story of the Magi visiting the infant Jesus Christ.

Thus, from early times, puzzled practitioners had naturally noticed that the Zi Wei Dou Shu format has a 12 houses format similar to that in Hindu Vedic astrology. But that was how far their understanding is, as they lack the expertise to analyse further. Only the original Zi Wei Dou Shu format was subjected to a number formula system which masked the original astronomical basis. Through time, practitioners forgot the astronomy which is the basis of the numerical formulas. The numerical formulas are only approximations of actual astronomical events and dating errors have emerged through the long term. It is time to return to the original astronomy of Zi Wei Dou Shu and cast a more accurate astrology.
Besides Lu Dong Bin, the other Eight Immortals famous for their skills in astrology include Chang Kuo Lao, Han Hsiang Tzu and Lan Tsai Ho. They all probably applied the original Zi Wei Dou Shu. It may be said that Zi Wei Dou Shu is essentially the invention of the Eight Immortals.
Zi Wei Dou Shu is far more significant than what is now realised. The Zi Wei star is referred to a number of times in the Feng Shui writings of Yang Yun Sung. The true Xuan Kong Feng Shui of Yang Yun Sung involves interactions of Zi Wei Dou Shu with Luan Tuo Feng Shui. There is a lot modern practitioners do not know.Gui Management Center is continuing more research into Zi Wei Dou Shu. Contact us to know more. |
