MYTHS IN QI MEN DUN JIA -
INSIGHTS INTO ITS DUBIOUS ORIGINS

Prof. Dr.Ong Hean-Tatt 2 June 2011

Unraveling centuries of imperial deception in
Qi Men Dun Jia, Liu Ren, Ba Zi Eight Characters & Zi Wei Dou Shu!

Bruce Lee, the tragic actor. See Qi Men Dun Jia's Analysis of Bruce Lee's Death.

Geomancy arts like Zi Wei Dou Shu, Ba Zi Eight Characters, Qi Men Dun Jia, Liu Ren, Tai Yi, look formidable but are not that difficult to master. You need to master and compare them in order to detect the harmful myths within them!

Look Before You Leap

This article concerns questions about the quasi Feng Shui-astrology art of Qi Men Dun Jia which must be answered if Qi Men Dun Jia is really to be more effective.

  • The author had applied Qi Men Dun Jia to study the death of the tragic actor Bruce Lee. It is only with a date correction that the corrected Qi Men Dun Jia could analysed more accurately the circumstances surrounding the death of Bruce Lee - see article .

While the author believes that Qi Men Dun Jia in its original form is truly effective, distortions since the time of the creation of Qi Men Dun Jia could mar its efficiency.

Should you pay high fees to learn a possibly dubious form of Qi Men Dun Jia? Think again!

Practitioners should carefully examine the background, both logical and historical, of a geomancy art before rushing to embrace and apply it. Too many have spent large amounts of money and valuable time before realising they had been conned and exploited by charlatans.

The author's research found disturbing historical and scientific evidence that much of current Feng Shui and astrology are riddled with massive errors, some wilfully created through imperial deception. Due to lack of information and knowledge most are unable to detect the errors and deception

Divine door, magic armour?

The mystery hides significant dubiousness.

Alluring Mysterious Aura

The term "Qi Men Dun Jia" has several impressive but deceptive definitions, like "Divine Door, Magic Armour", "Wondrous Door, Hide Jia", "Strange Gates, Escaping Techniques", etc. It is associated along with Da Liu Ren (Big Six Yang Water) and Tai Yi Shen Shu (Supreme One Divine Classic) as the collective "Three Arts or Three Styles" (San Shì), misleadingly said to be China's highest metaphysical arts.

Claims as China's highest metaphysical arts are based on that Qi Men Dun Jia was supposed to be used as far back as 2650 BC by Yellow Emperor Huang Di in his battles against the arch rebel Chi You. Other famous figures said to use Qi Men Dun Jia include Jiang Ziya of the Chou dynasty (circa 1126 BC), Chang Liang of the Han dynasty (circa 250 BC) and Zhuge Liang of the Three Kingdoms, circa AD 250. Look like quite an impressive track record!

  • It is said that in ancient time in China, Qi Men Dun Jia was taught by the deity, Ninth Heaven Goddess to Emperor Huang. Emperor Huang used Qi Men Dun Jia to defeat his strongest enemy Chi You in battle. Centuries later, Jiang Zi Ya applied Qi Men Dun Jia to destroy Emperor Zhou. In Han Dynasty Zhang Liang learnt Qi Men from Huang Shi Gong and used it to help Emperor Gao Zu to win the whole China and establish the Han Dynasty. These stories are recorded in history books and remain popular until today.
In the Three Kingdoms period, there are historical records of Zhu Ge Liang using Qi Men to win lots of battles, particularly at the Battle of Red Cliff, which was made popular recently by Director John Woo. Some other famous ancient Chiinese military strategists and politicians, such as Jiang Shang, Zhang Zi Fang , Xu Zhe , Xu Qi Gong , Li Jing , Miao Guang Yi , Liu Bo Wen , are all proficient in Qi Men techniques,
(http://zhixianzhuang.com/qimen. 2010. Accumulate wealth, prosperity and success with our Qimen. ).

  • In the ancient book "The Song from Old Fishing Man" carried the following story: Emperor XuanYuan fought a fierce battle with Shi You for many years. In a dream he dreamt Heaven gave him an oracle and XuanYuan then paid his respects upon a sacrificial platform and practised such arts which soon brought success. He ordered his military man Feng Hou to write down these arts and this was the beginning of Dunjia. (Feng Shui Divination. Feng Shui Institute. feng-shui-institute.org)

Most people reading such claims will be awed by an art like Qi Men Dun Jia. One guy fired by the claims frantically called me saying he wants to learn Qi Men Dun Jia. He could not find a local master to teach him and he knows that I know Qi Men Dun Jia.

Only, he did not know, until I explained to him, that I do not regard QMDJ highly! "What?" some may exclaim in surprise.

The trouble is that many are quite naive not to realise that there are many incredulous claims made in ancient texts. A critical analysis of the internal evidence of the ancient texts, especially in comparisons with history, can often reveal many myths in the stories about the ancient geomancy arts like Qi Men Dun Jia.

Qi Men Dun Jia (also Liu Ren, Ba Zi, Tai Yi) uses the 24 Solar Terms solar calendar which came into existence only in the Sui dynasty, circa AD 600. All the stories about use long before like by Yellow Emperor Huang Di are rubbish!

Historical Contradictions

There is some other internal evidence within the methodology of Qi Men Dun Jia which shows that it is impossible ancient figures like Huang Di or Zhang Liang could ever use Qi Men Dun Jia.

Yellow Emperor Huang Di was supposed to live around 2650 BC, while Zhang Liang came into Chinese history around 250 BC.

The internal evidence lies in the calendrical use of the 24 Solar Terms to compute the starting point of the Qi Men Dun Jia chart. The time is computed through the Four Pillars system and the 24 Solar Terms of the solar calendar has to be referred to.

The 24 Solar Terms existed around 500 BC. But what is not realised is that these 24 Solar Terms used by geomancy like Qi Men Dun Jia, Liu Ren, Ba Zi Eight Characters, were incorporated into the calendar only during the Sui dynasty, circa AD 600. That is, the calculation method involving the calendrical 24 Solar Terms could not exist before AD 600. So, how could Qi Men Dun Jia be ever used by people long before then, like Huang Di or Zhang Liang? The stories are just falsehoods!

If the stories are fakes, would not the whole art of Qi Men Dun Jia be just a fake?

The historical record is that Huang Shih Kung gave Chang Liang the strategy manual "Three Strategies". The tale that Huang Shih Kung gave Chang Liang a text on Qi Men Dun Jia is nonsense!
Illogicalities in the Legends

Not only that, there are other illogicalities in the stories claiming Qi Men Dun Jia was used earlier than the Ming dynasty.

Historical texts dug up from a Han dynasty tomb reveal the legend that Yellow Emperor Huang Di used the well known strategy manual Sun Zi Art of War to win his battles. It was not Qi Men Dun Jia but Sun Zi Art of War which was used by Huang Di! The legend that Huang Di used Qi Men Dun Jia is contradicted by the historical testimony and was just a bluff story used to try to boost the reputation of Qi Men Dun Jia.

  • In fact, the same type of dubious story is seen in the legend that "Zhang Liang learnt Qi Men from Huang Shi Gong and used it to help Emperor Gao Zu to win the whole China and establish the Han Dynasty". The historical testimony is that Zhang Liang learnt from a military manual known as Huang Shih Kung "Three Strategies". The youthful Zhang Liang had met the redoubtable Taoist immortal Huang Shih Kung who gave him the strategy manual.

Zhang Liang did not use a chancy thing like Qi Men Dun Jia but actually followed sound strategy principles laid down in a military strategy manual, vis Huang Shih Kung "Three Strategies".

Once again, the story about Zhang Liang using Qi Men Dun Jia is just a bluff, used to try to boost the reputation of Qi Men Dun Jia.

Previously, the author had also shown that Mei Hua Plum Blossom divination contains a lot of fake stories trying to support a dubious accuracy.

Historical analysts have known that during the Sung dynasty onwards certain ancient Chinese texts tended to spike their stories with dubious legends to boost the reputations of those things the texts try to promote. It was a trend which continued into the Ming and Qing dynasties. There being no proper case examples or track records, there were Ming forgeries cooking up dubious legends as above to boost the reputation of Qi Men Dun Jia.

They don't know how I fake Qi Men Dun Jia

Imperial Agenda in Faking Qi Men Dun Jia

Qi Men Dun Jia is made more alluring owing to claims that it was originally a super art meant to be secretly used only by the imperial circle:

  • It was recorded in the Chinese history that Qi Men Dun Jia, together with Da Liu Ren and Tai Yi Shen Shu are the highest Three Arts or Three Styles in Chinese Meta-physics. It was said that these Arts can only be practice by the Emperor or their advisors. Commoner will be executed if being caught practicing it. ((Feng Shui Divination. Feng Shui Institute. feng-shui-institute.org))

Alarm bells should have been ringing when the history noted that it was a Ming scholar who compiled "Dun Jia Yan Yi" purporting to reveal the so-called highly secretive potent Qi Men Dun Jia. Common sense should warn that the Ming scholar could have compiled Qi Men Dun Jia only with the permission of the emperor. Unauthorised revelations would lead to executions. If Qi Men Dun Jia was supposed to be an imperial prerogative why have it compiled for more public exposure?

  • The answer should be obvious. It is known that the imperial circle was prone to falsify things to confuse the ordinary people. The emperor certainly would not want the genuine Qi Men Dun Jia to be leaked to the public. It would be characteristic of the imperial circle to have a forgery circulated. That was why the imperial circle allowed the Ming scholar to compile something which was a fake Qi Men Dun Jia!

Was it because the original Qi Men Dun Jia was a highly potent art that the emperors should throw a red herring to confuse people? Not necessarily. There could be a more potent reason why the emperors had the Ming scholar compiled Qi Men Dun Jia.

The more real reason lies in the meticulous efforts to try to link Qi Men Dun Jia to legendary leaders like Yellow Huang Di, Ziang Ziya, Zhang Liang, Zhuge Liang and Liu Bo Wen. Try to read up more of these legendary figures and you may guess why Qi Men Dun Jia was linked to them.

No, it is more than using the legendary figures to boost the false reputation of Qi Men Dun Jia. The emperors directed the compilation of Qi Men Dun Jia to prevent people using something far more potent. The imperial circle did not want people to use potent strategy manuals associated with the legendary figures, vis:

  • Huang Di, circa 2650 BC - Sun Zi Art of War
Jiang Ziya, circa 1126 BC - Six Strategies
Chang Liang, circa 250 BC - Huang Shih Kung "Three Strategies"
Zhuge Liang, circa AD 250 - Zhuge Liang's Art of War

Sun Zi Art of War, Six Strategies and Huang Shih Kung's "Three Strategies" are parts of the "Seven Military Classics" reserved only for imperial usage in the Sung and Ming dynasties. To further prevent people from using these deadly strategy manuals, the emperors had faked up things like Qi Men Dun Jia to distract potential rivals.

The emperors knew that the published Qi Men Dun Jia was a fake. They hoped that rivals would superstitiously use Qi Men Dun Jia, thereby resorting to idiotic strategies which could not match the real military strategies used by the emperors!

During critical periods in war what would a leader do? Many tend to seek omens and consult the divinators. It is for such critical periods that the strategist Sun Zi warned:

  • Do not take omens and do away with superstitions Sun Zi 11:26.

One practitioner claimed that the geomancy "San Shi" arts of Qi Men Dun Jia, Liu Ren and Taiyi Shen Shu can match military manuals like Sun Zi Art of War. Fat hopes! Do not follow such a foolish advice! That was what the emperors wanted rivals to do - to abandon proper strategies and resort to superstitious guidelines. The emperors would surely defeat you!

All true astrology are based on the same planetary system! Zi Wei Dou Shu is the parent source of many Chinese astrology.

Some systems like Mei Hua Plum Blossom divination purporting to tell the future are fakes!

Hidden Secrets

There may be other possible motives for the imperial circle to fake Qi Men Dun Jia.

Our research (not published here) shows that Qi Men Dun Jia was created in the Ming dynasty making use of some extant system of imperial astrology. The source had to be a form of astrology known only to the imperial circle. Such an astrology was Zi Wei Dou Shu, Purple Star Astrology.

Zi Wei Dou Shu has a number of sets of stars, totally to some over 140 stars. In a past article, the author has shown that the 3 dozens stars of Ba Zi Eight Characters were forged from 3 sets of stars from Zi Wei Dou Shu - see article . 140 stars could not come from 3 dozen stars but the other way round. Zi Wei Dou Shu uses the luni-solar calendar, indicating it was far older than Ba Zi Eight Characters divination which uses the newer solar calendar.

The same evaluation shows that Qi Men Dun Jia was created from 2 sets of stars from Zi Wei Dou Shu. That part of Zi Wei Dou Shu concerned with purposes associated with Qi Men Dun Jia is probably a potent way of calculating some of the Zi Wei Dou Shu stars. But imperial distortions had destroyed the efficiency of this part of Zi Wei Dou Shu.

  • I am afraid to say that we have found out that Liu Ren was also faked from 2 sets of stars from Zi Wei Dou Shu.

Have no doubt! The parent source of many Chinese astrology arts was Zi Wei Dou Shu with its over 140 stars in several sets. It was used by the emperors to fake arts like Qi Men Dun Jia, Liu Ren and Tai Yi. "Three Arts or Three Styles" (San Shì), said to be China's highest metaphysical arts? The current versions are only fakes!

It is said that arts like Qi Men Dun Jia and Liu Ren have millions of combinations. Yet, such arts only utilise 2 or 3 dozens of the stars of Zi Wei Dou Shu. Hence, by comparison, the combinations in Zi Wei Dou Shu will run into even more billions!

Our research is recovering the original forms of Qi Men Dun Jia, and also Liu Ren, Tai Yi and Ba Zi Eight Characters divination. They are likely and throw light on special applications of parts of Zi Wei Dou Shu. It will be probably too complicated to convey through the web, but we may teach all these in our Zi Wei Dou Shu course.

Read startling highlights of our findings on Zi Wei Dou Shu, including how the emperor faked the current Zi Wei Dou Shu!

Some of the faked aspects also affect the Ba Zi Eight Characters divination, which is actually is an inferior astrology extracted from a small part of Zi Wei Dou Shu.
