The Spearman Rank Correlation

In order to assess the true age of Gobekli Tepe, this exegesis compared common data for radiocarbon dating for various ancient sites with their known calendar periods. Limestone status for each ancient site was collated from extant common data, with average rainfall extracted for limestone areas. A Spearman Rank Correlation analysis was carried out for the comparison as presented in Table 1.

• Radiocarbon dating and calendar periods are extracted from various sources and shown respectively in Columns 2 and 3.

• Weathering status of limestone is indicated in 5th Column, which also indicate rankings among the various sites. Lower rankings reflect absence of limestone or denser less porous limestone Higher rainfall would increase weathering.

• Differences between radiocarbon dating and calendar periods are in Column 4, and they are ranked from lowest to highest differences

• The differences between the rankings in the age differences and limestone status were shown in Column 6.

The Spearman Correlation analysis produces a correlation coefficient of 0.9417 which was highly significant at a probability of 0.005.

The correlation statistical analysis proved conclusively that the differences between radiocarbon dating and calendar periods would be higher when the weathering of limestone was higher.

Critics Correct that Radiocarbon Dating is Erroneous

The highly significant statistical correlation coefficient means there is no doubt that significant contamination from limestone soils and rocks gave rise to higher differences in radiocarbon dating as compared to the historical calendar data. The statistical analysis here support claims of critics that radiocarbon dating is unreliable and would give erratic much higher age than calendar dates.

Notwithstanding so-called statistical standard deviations and calibrations curves done, some parameters in the radiocarbon dating equation have been wrongly identified y radiometric enthusiasts.

Factors Causing Contamination form Limestone Bases

Why would the limestone base cause misreading in the radiocarbon?

Look at these salient features of the paths of the bicarbonates emitting from weathered limestone:

The facts show that radiometric enthusiasts have wrongly assumed that all the carbon in their samples originated from carbon dioxides in air. What they failed to understand is that bicarbonates originating from weathering of limestone in soils would be metabolised by plants and other organisms.

Figure 1 shows at least three different sources by which organisms would source their carbon.

The bicarbonates originating from weathering of limestone have hardly any C14. Hence organisms thriving in limestone areas will have carbon with lower C14 contents than organisms from non-limestone areas. Any radiocarbon dating of fossils and wood samples from limestone areas will have false spiked age and would seem older than actual.

Dr Gerald A. Aardsma had brought up this limestone factor in 1989:

• Comparison of ancient, historically dated artifacts (from Egypt, for example) with their radiocarbon dates has revealed that radiocarbon years and calendar years are not the same even for the last 5,000 calendar years…

  The problem with freshwater clams arises because these organisms derive the carbon atoms which they use to build their shells from the water in their environment. If this water is in contact with significant quantities of limestone, it will contain many carbon atoms from dissolved limestone. Since limestone contains very little, if any, radiocarbon, clam shells will contain less radiocarbon than would have been the case if they had gotten their carbon atoms from the air. This gives the clam shell an artificially old radiocarbon age.

  In any event, the calibration tables which have been produced from tree rings do not support the conventional steady-state model of radiocarbon which Libby introduced. Rather, they lend support to the idea that significant perturbations to radiocarbon have occurred in the past.

Now here is a highly scientific statistical analysis which proves that Dr Gerald Aardsma was right. His stand is supported by some findings:

• Abstract. Evidence is presented to show that modern mollusk shells from rivers can have anomalous radiocarbon ages, owing mainly to incorporation of inactive (carbon-14-deficient) carbon from humus, probably through the food web, as well as by the pathway of carbon dioxide from humus decay. The resultant effect, in addition to the variable contributions of atmospheric carbon dioxide, fermentative carbon dioxide from bottom muds, and, locally, of carbonate carbon from dissolving limestones , makes the initial carbon-14 activity of ancient fresh-water shell indeterminate, but within limits. Radiometric enthusiasts have to honestly wake up to the dismal inaccuracies of radiometric dating. There was hype about the tricky preparation and cleaning of samples for radiocarbon dating, which even radiometric enthusiasts warned could generate false sample analyses. First, when bicarbonates entered into the pores in the sample they would eventually calcify and seal the pores. It is doubtful that the cleaning could penetrate deep enough into the whole samples to remove the "contaminating carbonates".

But, what is fatal is ignoring the fact that living organisms would metabolise carbon sources not from the air which would contain hardly or very low amounts of C14. The C14 level would be very low if samples were taken from limestone areas.. These cannot be "cleaned" as the carbon had became part of the organism.
